Yesterday was my weekly visit to the Goodwill and I racked up!
I got both the boys their Halloween costumes for less than $12.00! AND they were both costumes the boys wanted!
I got a Sort and Spin Organize thingy with the plastic containers for $4.50! These things normally go for $19.99 and this one was brand new, still in the box and plastic!
I also got a couple of small decorations for the Fall season one was $.49 and the other was $1.99! Last, but not least I found four small dishes/bowls for the kids to have snacks in for $2.00, for all four!
I’d say that shopping at Goodwill is easy on my wallet and I feel good knowing my purchases are things saved from a landfill.
I met with a local Goodwill representative on Monday and she shared with me all the awesome stuff my local Goodwill is doing for the community. I was surprised that at minimum, $.90 of every dollar that comes in goes out to programs for Goodwill! That is a ratio I can get behind. The Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs is in the top 10 Goodwill programs nationwide.
Personally, I appreciate the work they do with people who have disabilities. My Aunt Deb is a mentally disabled person, she is 55 years old, but has the mentality of a 4 year old. She works in a program similar to the Industrial Services Division of Goodwill. I have personally seen how programs like this benefit people in her situation. They give them purpose and meaning and friendship. I love hearing her talk about her job and the money she makes. I always like to ask her how much money I can borrow and tell her she can’t spend it all on perfume (which is her FAVORITE thing to buy).
Donating to Goodwill instead of throwing stuff away is always a good choice. Check out the Donate button on my right side bar for information on their Donate movement. I toured the Goodwill facilities earlier this year, ad was floored at everything they do! I love shopping there even more now. The people who work there are doing an incredible thing for so many people!
