Saturdays used to be the “FUN” day. Pre-children it was the day to sleep in, go out with friends, play sports, just relax, whatever. Now it is just a day, like any other, especially when Ben is gone. We wake up, eat breakfast, clean, figure out what we are going to do today. I feel like Pinky and the Brain, “What are we going to do today?” “Same thing we do everyday, try to take over the world!”
So, that is what I decided to do. From now on Saturdays will be our day to try and take over the world. We have found numerous spots to play and hike in the woods, play in the creek and just commune with nature in general. I Like to think I do those things so my boys get outside and see there is more to the world than Diego and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but I do have an ulterior motive. They don’t know it, but I like to wear them out. Let them run, play, jump in a creek, do whatever they have to do so that around 7:00 they are so tired they will beg to go to bed. The begging hasn’t happened, but usually they are tired. Boys need exercise and lots of it. They need to spend time playing, running, hiking, looking at animals, digging up trees, building forts, etc. They need to be physically worn out. So here’s a tip for all you moms of boys, WEAR THEM OUT! In the process you will most definitely shed a few pounds, get a little sun and enjoy countless moments of laughter and bonding time with your children…and maybe a spider, snake, or bug.
